The Companions

In his journey to the West,
Hazrat Inayat Khan was accompanied by his brother Maheboob Khan and his cousin-brother Ali Khan. Within a year, they were also joined by their youngest brother Musharaff Khan. Although this was partly a fulfilment of the dying request of their father Rahmat that Inayat look after his brothers, it also proved to be the hand of Providence sending help for Inayat's great work in spreading the Sufi Message. The brothers travelled with him faithfully, sharing his difficulties, and after his passing, one by one took the care and leadership of the infant Sufi Movement. Their support and wisdom were invaluable both during the Master's life and afterward.

All of the brothers were accomplished musicians, and in the West they formed an ensemble called 'The Royal Musicians of Hindustan.'
