Spiritual Healing

The purpose of Spiritual Healing is to awaken people to a greater realization of the healing power of the divine spirit. To become more and more conscious of the divinity of our soul, of the divine Healer outside and within ourselves and to awaken other people to this tremendous power. (Hazrat Inayat Khan, The Soul Whence and Whither)

The Spiritual Healing Activity teaches that health is natural, and that spiritual attunement is the foundation of all wellness. Spiritual Healing circles are formed within the Activity and these meet regularly to offer prayers for the healing of those who wish it. Through breath, prayer and concentration participants seek to become instruments of divine spiritual energy and to send this healing power to people in need who are not present.

The activity is conducted by a mureed (student of the teachings of Hazrat Inayat Khan) who has been accepted into the school of spiritual healing and has been trained to conduct these activities. The leader prepares the ceremony by laying out objects that represent the elements (earth, water, fire, air and ether) on a small table, and making a list of people who are in need of spiritual healing and who have agreed to be mentioned in the ceremony. A volunteer helps by reading the names of the people on this list.

During the service, the leader guides the group through prayers and attunement to the divine healing power of God. Participants strive to concentrate on the ceremony only, and empty their minds of anything else. In this way, a channel of healing energy can flow to those in need.
Once this channel has been established, the names are read one by one, with a silence and a prayer for healing after each name.

In spiritual healing, it is the work of the mind which is the greatest. Therefore, the power of concentration is the first thing to develop." (Hidayat Inayat-Khan, The Inner School: Esoteric Sufi Teachings)
